Daughters, sons, fathers, friends… forget the bath bombs and tiny sandwiches, we’ve taken the guess work out of Mother’s Day preparation with our complete itinerary for the perfect day…
Hit the snooze button
Put mum’s phone in aeroplane mode the night before and let her know that activities don’t kick off until late morning – she is instructed to laze around in bed for as long as she wishes. Be sure the whole household is across this in the morning and move like mice!
Bond over brunch
Once mum’s up and about send someone on a coffee run. Allow mum to enjoy her delicious, hot barista-made beverage in peace – whether that is outside in the sunshine or in front of the TV. If she loves to dine out but rarely has the time, create her own private dining experience. Put together a simple set menu with her favourite breakfast treats and some freshly squeezed juice. Sit down with mum and share one of your favourite memories together – this will be a nice bonding experience for both of you.
Cherish an adventurous moment
Get outdoors and explore! Boys you’ve got no excuse on this one… pick an activity and a destination. This can be as minimal or as extreme as you wish – tailor the experience to suit mum’s interests and passions. It may be as simple as hiring a kayak and going for a paddle on a nearby creek or river, or for the thrill seeking mum’s out there, it might be a little more adventurous… like climbing a mountain! Be sure to leave your phones in the car and cherish these moments together.
Picnics and pastimes
Be sure to prep for your gourmet picnic ahead of time. Pack the esky full of mum’s favourite ingredients – think cheese, cured meats, fruits, chocolate and of course champagne. Load the car with a rug, a basket and any utensils you may need – like champagne flutes and a cheese board. Pick a spot with gorgeous views, like Fingal or Hastings Point headland, or the beach. Give mum the task of picking the spot and laying out the rug whilst you assemble your masterpiece. Spent the afternoon indulging mum with her favourite treats whilst you laugh and reminisce together.
Dinner and a show
Grab some face masks from a local health store and your mum’s favourite takeaway. Change into your dressing gowns, apply your face masks (you too dad!) and set yourselves up in front of the TV with mum’s favourite movie or a TV show she’s been meaning to watch for months but never has the time. To put the cherry on top of a beautiful day make mum a nice cup of herbal tea as she settles in for a well rested night’s sleep.
