Cape Byron Walking Track & Lighthouse

Enjoy spectacular coastal views along the Cape Byron walking track that takes you on a hike through rainforest, beach, grassland, and clifftops to the lighthouse. Cape Byron Lighthouse is located at Australia’s most easterly point of the mainland and is Australia’s most powerful lighthouse.

You will need a good two hours to properly experience the Cape Byron walking track. The 3.7km loop leads you on a hike through the rainforest and across clifftops with stunning views of the ocean and hinterland.

During the walk, you will wander through the shade of bangalow palms and ancient burrawangs, along picturesque beaches and up to Cape Byron Lighthouse. At the top of the lighthouse, remember to keep an eye out on the water for turtles, dolphins, stingrays and, in season, whales.

Once you’ve made it to the lighthouse, you are not only greeted with breathtaking 360° views, you can go inside of the lighthouse, where they have a room filled with historic artifacts and history of the lighthouse. On weekends, they even take a selected number of visitors to the top of the lighthouse, where you can learn even more history of the lighthouse and get a bird’s eye view. At the top, there is also a gelato shop, that serves handmade gelato, made with local ingredients. There is also coffee and milkshakes available as well as sandwiches and cakes.
